Sandra Blair is a nature photographer and wildlife artist living in central Pennsylvania. Her award-winning photographs and paintings feature subjects that are fleeting and finite in nature, captured in a way that expresses her deep admiration for the planet’s more delicate characteristics. One must be truly present in the moment to capture images such as these — that is when captivating aspects reveal themselves.

Blair writes:

"Nature is the ultimate therapist. Detailed photographs of water birds, plants, and flowers explore the delicacy, beauty and wonder of the natural world as seen through my eyes. Come and take a serene walk through nature and forget about everyday life for a while.

"In our fast-paced world, we often overlook the beauty of our natural world and the wild creatures that have adapted to human encroachment to live their lives among us. As an artist and photographer, my challenge is to capture a fleeting moment in nature: that split second of wonder when you come into the presence of an animal in its natural environment or the pleasure of taking time to stop and smell the roses.

"My hope is that the beauty revealed through my work will remain with my audience, enticing them to slow down and observe their surroundings with fresh eyes. Until we truly see, we cannot fully understand the devastation that is occurring through loss of habitat and vanishing species. Seeing fosters thinking; thinking fosters action.

"In today's profit-driven society, it is up to communities, corporations and individuals to embrace environmentally-sound practices; advocate ongoing protection of our threatened and endangered species; and cultivate more wild spaces, whether on large tracts of land or in our own backyards."

This exhibit runs from March 2019 through May 2019 and is presented in partnership with Gettysburg College's Musselman Library.
