Starring Burgess Meredith as renowned war correspondent Ernie Pyle and Robert Mitchum in an Oscar-nominated role as an Army officer, the film captures the hardships, camaraderie, and sacrifices of soldiers on the front lines. A favorite of Dwight D. Eisenhower, this film was shown right here — at Gettysburg’s Majestic Theater — 80 years ago in 1945.
